Our bathroom rugs

The bathroom rug is both a safety item and a decorative one. It soaks up water as you step out of the shower or bath, prevents slips on a wet floor, and gives you a soft, warm surface on tiles that are usually cold. It is also one of the very few textiles in an otherwise functional room, which makes it a significant decorative element.

What size for a bathroom?

It depends on the size and the layout:

  • A small bathroom: a 50×80 cm rug in front of the shower or the basin
  • A standard bathroom: a main 60×100 cm, plus a second one in front of the basin if you like
  • A large bathroom or shower room: an 80×150 cm or larger, covering the main walkway
  • In front of the bath: a long 60×180 cm design that runs the full length

Non-slip: the absolute priority

In a bathroom, the rug absolutely has to stay put on a wet floor. Every design in this range has a non-slip backing in latex or moisture-resistant PVC. For a decorative rug without one built in, add a grip underlay made for wet rooms. Never put a slippery long-pile rug in front of a shower: it is the leading cause of falls in the room.

Absorbent materials

Two materials dominate our selection:

  • Cotton: naturally absorbent, soft to the touch, easy to wash. Ideal as a machine-washable design
  • Short-pile polypropylene: moisture-resistant, easy to clean, perfect for patterned designs and for the traffic in front of the basin

For an absorbent bath mat, go for thick cotton. For a graphic look or a walkway, polypropylene offers more visual choice and more durability.

Colours and spa styling

Soft, pale tones (white, ivory, beige, pearl grey) create the luxurious spa atmosphere that today's bathrooms are built around. Soft blues and sage greens reinforce the sense of calm. For a bolder bathroom, be brave with black, anthracite or contemporary geometric patterns. Avoid colours that are too bright: they date quickly.

Care

A weekly machine wash at 30°C is ideal for proper hygiene, which matters in a damp room where mould can take hold. All our washable designs cope with regular machine washing. Air-dry it, never tumble-dry (the non-slip backing will not survive). Shake it out daily to get rid of any remaining moisture.
