Our 400×500 cm rugs

The 400×500 cm rug covers 20 m², a whole room underfoot. It is the largest size in our standard catalogue, reserved for exceptional spaces: big lofts, very large reception rooms, dining rooms built for entertaining in numbers.

Which room?

  • A large loft (70 m² and up): it gives a very large volume its visual structure
  • A very large reception living room (60-100 m²): it holds a big corner sofa, armchairs and a conversation area
  • A grand dining room (ten to twelve people): under a 260×110 cm table with comfortable overhang
  • Open-plan living and dining: a single rug can structure both zones

Why is it so rare?

Few homes call for a size like this. In most living rooms, a 200×300 cm or 250×350 cm is more than enough. The 400×500 answers a specific interior architecture brief: converted lofts, period houses with formal rooms, large properties.

Budget and quality

A 400×500 is a serious investment (€800 to €4,000 depending on the material and the quality). At this size and this price:

  • Put material quality above everything, since a rug like this should last 20 years
  • Favour timeless styles (plain textured, classic Berber, traditional Persian)
  • Go for neutral colours, which are safer (beige, grey, ivory), because there is no easy way back from a bold 400×500

An alternative: a made-to-measure rug

For specific dimensions beyond the standard 400×500, a made-to-measure rug is an option. Some ranges (mainly handmade) accept special orders. Lead time: 6 to 16 weeks depending on the production method. Price: 30 to 80% more than a standard size. Get in touch for a bespoke quote.

A piece to pass on

At this exceptional size, the rug becomes an heirloom element of your decor: it structures the room for decades and may well be handed down to the next generation. Put material quality first (high-density polypropylene, or handmade wool for a premium budget), choose a timeless style that will not date (classic Berber, traditional Persian, plain textured), and pick safe neutral colours (beige, ivory, taupe grey) rather than a passing colour trend.
