Our extra-large rugs (350 cm and over)
Our extra-large rugs, 350 cm wide and over, are exceptional pieces made for generous spaces. They turn a large empty room into somewhere structured and lived in, and bring the boutique hotel feeling you recognise instantly. In a loft, a very large living room, a master suite or an open-plan space, this is the investment that separates a room that is merely furnished from one that is properly decorated.
When do you need an extra-large rug?
Several situations call for this size:
- A very large living room (over 40 m²): a 300×400 cm or larger structures the space instead of getting lost in it
- A loft or open-plan room: it marks out the seating area within a big volume
- A master suite or a very large bedroom: a 300×400 cm under a king bed leaves a generous margin all round
- A large dining room (a table for 10 to 12): a 400×500 cm takes the table and every chair pulled out
- A room open onto several zones: it separates them visually without a wall
The sizes
- 300×400 cm: the largest common size, and much in demand
- 400×500 cm: an exceptional size for genuinely generous rooms
- 350×450 cm: the European in-between size
- Made to measure: available on selected designs (longer lead times)
The styles available in XXL
Not every style is produced this large. The easiest to find:
- Textured plains: almost always available in XXL
- Berbers: superb at scale, where the graphic motif is at its most powerful
- Persians: designed from the start for grand reception rooms
- Plain moderns: understated and highly effective at scale
Harder to find in XXL: shaggy (demanding upkeep) and vintage patchworks (genuinely rare pieces).
A decorative investment that lasts
At this size, a rug becomes a real decorative investment meant to last decades. Prioritise material quality (high-density polypropylene, or wool on some handmade designs), a timeless style that will not date, and colours you will still love in 10 or 15 years. At this scale, the colour and the pattern dominate the whole room, so a safe bet beats a passing trend.
Choosing an extra-large rug
Do you really need a rug this large?
Do you really need a rug this large?
If your room is very large (over 40 m²), then yes, absolutely. A rug that is too small in a big space:
- Looks lost in the middle of the room (the "postage stamp" effect)
- Fails to anchor the furniture: it floats visually
- Leaves a sense of something missing: "the room is not finished"
Simple rule: in a very large living room, the rug has to be able to hold all the furniture (sofa, armchairs, coffee table). A 200×300 cm in a 50 m² living room is a let-down: a 300×400, or even a 400×500, changes everything.
300×400 or 400×500 cm: how do I choose?
300×400 or 400×500 cm: how do I choose?
It follows the floor area and the use:
- 300×400 cm: rooms of 40-55 m², a living room taking in all the furniture, a large king bedroom
- 400×500 cm: rooms of 60 m² and over, very large lofts, a dining room for 10-12
Beyond 400×500 you usually have to go made to measure: 6-12 weeks of lead time and a significantly higher budget.
Could I use two smaller rugs instead?
Could I use two smaller rugs instead?
In some cases yes, and it is actually a smart strategy:
- A large living and dining space: one rug per zone (one for the seating, one for the table), each in 200×300 or 250×350 cm
- A large bedroom with several zones: a rug under the bed plus a small one in front of the dressing table or the reading corner
- A multi-purpose loft: mark out each function visually with its own rug
The upsides: it costs less and it is easier to coordinate with your decor, since each zone gets its own visual identity. The downside: it is less majestic than a single very large rug in an open-plan space.
