Plain and textured rugs
No pattern, but plenty of relief: looped, sheared, ribbed or jacquard, across 35 designs.
Plain and textured rugs are the choice of contemporary restraint: a single-colour surface or a subtle gradient, elevated by the relief of the weave: looped, sheared, ribbed, jacquard or mid-length pile. They create a calming base that lets the rest of your decor speak.
Our selection spans the full neutral palette: beige, grey, cream, taupe and anthracite, with varied textures that add depth and character even without a pattern.
Polypropylene, shaggy polyester and viscose, plus handmade designs in wool and Tencel for a premium touch. Sizes 160×230 cm, 200×300 cm and large formats.

Our plain & textured rugs
Our plain and textured rugs embody the trend towards contemporary restraint. Rather than trying to impress with bold patterns, they work by subtlety: a single colour (or a gentle gradation) paired with a worked texture that catches the light and creates depth. The result is a rug that fits anywhere, never dates, and leaves your furniture, textiles and artwork to take centre stage.
What separates a "textured plain" from a plain rug?
A strictly plain rug (a flat, smooth surface in a single colour) can look dull. The textured plain, by contrast, is worked into the weave itself:
- Looped weave: small regular loops that create a soft relief
- Mixed carved and looped: alternating sheared and looped areas that form raised motifs without a second colour
- Textured jacquard: discreet motifs built into the weave
- Tone-on-tone ribs or stripes: visible only at certain angles of light
- Directional medium pile: like a short fur that plays with the light
That subtlety adds visual depth while keeping the look calm, which is ideal in rooms already rich in materials or colour.
Which room?
The textured plain is probably the most versatile rug we offer:
- In a living room: it calms strong furniture (a colourful sofa, artwork, a crowded bookcase)
- In a bedroom: it creates a soothing base, perfect first thing in the morning
- In a dining room: it finishes the space without stealing the show from the furniture or the table
- In an entrance hall: it sets an understated, elegant tone
- Under a Berber rug or an oriental: layered underneath, it enlarges the visual surface
Which colours to go for
Textured plains come mainly in the neutral range:
- Beige and cream: the universal safe bet, and it makes a space feel larger
- Grey (light through to anthracite): modern and versatile, sophisticated
- Taupe and warm brown: warm and current
- Ivory and off-white: luminous, for darker rooms
- Anthracite and black: understated conviction, for a very contemporary room
There are quieter coloured versions too: petrol blue, sage green, terracotta. Settled, unsaturated tones that stay true to the textured plain spirit.
Materials and finishes
Texture depends a great deal on the material:
- Looped polypropylene: a faux-sisal look, tough and modern
- Short shaggy polyester: soft and velvety, thoroughly contemporary
- Viscose: silky and luminous, ideal for lifting a single colour
- Wool or Tencel (handmade): noble, with a texture nothing else matches. Our premium range
Choosing your textured plain rug
Isn't a plain rug a bit boring?
Isn't a plain rug a bit boring?
Quite the opposite: in a contemporary scheme, the plain rug (or plain textured rug) is often the most sophisticated choice. It lets the room breathe, shows off the furniture, the textiles and the artwork, and never dates. The trick for avoiding the "boring" effect: choose a design with real texture (looped, sheared, tone-on-tone jacquard) rather than a perfectly flat plain. The light then plays across the surface and reveals a depth that patterns cannot give. A good plain textured rug becomes the elegant backdrop that makes everything else look better.
Plain or patterned for my living room: how do I decide?
Plain or patterned for my living room: how do I decide?
The rule is simple: the more your decor already says, the more a plain rug is the right answer. Conversely, if your living room is restrained (neutral furniture, white walls, few objects), a patterned rug will supply the character it is missing. A checklist to decide:
- Colourful or printed furniture → plain textured rug
- Artworks or coloured walls → plain rug
- Lots of plants, books, accessories → plain rug
- Pared-back decor, neutral furniture, white walls → a patterned rug works
Which texture should I choose for a plain rug?
Which texture should I choose for a plain rug?
Four main options:
- Loop pile (artificial sisal look): a natural finish, very modern. Hard-wearing. One caveat: the loops can catch a cat's claws
- Cut and loop mix: raised patterning without any colour. Very elegant, and pricier
- Short shaggy: a plush, velvety feel, maximum comfort underfoot
- Dense short pile: the most versatile of all, and easy to look after
In a living room, loop and cut-pile textures are very much in vogue. In a bedroom, a short shaggy is more comfortable. In a dining room, go for a dense short pile (it stands up better to chairs being pushed about).
