Rugs 200 × 300 cm

The 200×300 cm rug is the second most requested size after the 160×230 cm. It is the "large living room" standard: the ideal size for living spaces of 20 to 30 m², big enough to take in a whole seating arrangement.

Which room?

• A large living room (20-30 m²): the rug sits under sofa, armchairs and coffee table, taking in all the furniture
• Bedroom with a 160 cm queen bed: placed under the bed, with 60 cm of overhang on each side
• Dining room for four to six: under a 140×90 cm rectangular table
• A very large entrance or hall: a majestic central rug
• Open-plan living and dining: it marks out the seating zone

Why is this size so popular?

The 200×300 cm covers 6 m² of floor. It is the grown-up size for a living room rug: it lets you build a real visual composition, with sofa, coffee table and armchairs all on the rug, rather than a simple accent under the coffee table. A room with a 200×300 cm reads as more structured and more "finished" than the same room with a 160×230.

This size is very widely produced and comes in absolutely every style and colour, from traditional Berbers to sleek modern designs, by way of Persians and orientals.

How to lay it in a living room

Three main options:

• Under all the furniture: sofa, armchairs and coffee table entirely on the rug. Very much a "defined room" effect
• Front legs of the furniture on the rug: only the front legs of the sofa and the armchairs. Leaves more floor on show
• Under the central zone only: just the coffee table and a third of the sofa, an option that becomes tricky at 200×300 cm, where the rug risks looking undersized for the effect
