To work out the length, add the depth and the height of one step, multiply by your number of steps, then round up to the next size. For a turning or spiral staircase, measure step by step.

How is this Torino stair runner fitted, and can I do it myself?

It can be fixed either with adhesive, for a permanent and solid installation, or with stair rods or staples, which hold it without glue and can be taken up again, depending on your substrate (wood, vinyl and so on).
